description: |

Galvani’s De viribus electricitatis in motu musculari represents a major contribution in the history of modern life sciences. Published in 1791, the treatise described Galvani’s experimental enquiries into the interactions between electricity and muscular motion, and his theory of animal electricity. Galvani’s experiments were repeated and his theory was debated in the main centres of scientific culture of the eighteenth century, and contributed to the development of new fields of enquiry, most notably the study of electricity, which were also explored by Alessandro Volta. |
